Introduction: Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by the development of autoantibodies and immune complexes associated with a variety of clinical manifestations and tissue damage. SLE is the production of reactive antibodies against the body’s own cells. SLE is multifactorial and most likely involves complex interactions between genetic, environmental, and hormonal factors. There is an aging process in immune cells due to changes in the innate and adaptive immune system compartments. This phenomenon is known as Immunosenescence, also occurs on autoimmune. One of the characteristics of elderly people is their inability to respond to vaccines and infections properly.Discussion This situation also occurs in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus .....

Introduction: In daily health care practice, it has been observed that there is a notable difference in the age at which the teeth erupt in patients, who do not comply with the established canons. This has sparked interest in the subject. Objective: to determine the changes in the order and chronology of the outbreak in the primary dentition at a national and international level. Material and Methods: A search was carried out in 8 electronic databases of the systems (MEDLINE, PubMed, Hinari Cochrane, PubMed, SciELO, Scopus and Google Scholar). The articles reviewed were 59 articles of which 18 were selected for research. Most relevant results: After the search, we found that the topic in general has been little addressed in primary dentition. Despite this, investigations were found in India, China, Indonesia, Saudi Ara.....

Early Childhood Caries (ECC) is a public health problem of global proportions, which involves the early carious involvement of the primary maxillary incisors followed by the maxillary and mandibular first primary molars and the mandibular cuspids. For many years, the preformed paediatric metal crown (stainless steel crown (SSC)) was considered as a gold standard. However, to over disadvantages of SSC preformed pediatric zirconia crowns are introduced recently. Some drawbacks which limit the use of zirconia crowns are that it requires significantly more time to prepare the tooth for fitting the crown and its inability to manipulate its margin and adaptability. To overcome disadvantages of Preformed Zirconia Crowns Computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology came to rescue and made enormous improvements.....

Introduction: Oral Hairy Leukoplakia (OHL) is a hyperplastic mucocutaneous epithelial cell disease, induced by Epstein Barr virus (EBV). The clinical appearance of OHL is as white, corrugated, painless, and asymptomatic lesion, as a patch that cannot be removed by scrapping, located often bilaterally on lateral borders of the tongue. The prevalence of OHL was reported to be 20% in asymptomatic HIV infection in the United States to 36% with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS). Worldwide 2006, the prevalence of OHL in Brazil was 28,8%, also reported a prevalence of 38.8% and 21,8% in northern and southern USA.Discussion: Oral hairy leukoplakia is a specific lesion in HIV infection caused by Epstein Barr virus, and has been reported in over more than 28% patients and is a sign of disease progression. OHL appear clinically as an asympto.....

Orthodontists have increasingly shown more interest in the problem of retracting permanent canines. This dental movement is necessary in space closure of the arch for resolving different orthodontic problems. Very often, the extraction of first bicuspids is necessary in cases where there is severe crowding due to a discrepancy in tooth size and jaw size. First bicuspid extraction followed by separate cuspid retraction may also be indicated in cases of dento-alveolar sagittal anomalies such as excessive dental protrusion of the upper and/or lower teeth. Separate canine retraction may be accomplished with elastic chains, NiTi compression springs, lacebacks, Poul Gjessing (PG) canine retraction spring, rare earth magnets or distraction osteogenesis. These tend to tax anchorage. Headgears or orthodontic implants may be u.....

COVID-19 denotes a multifaceted global public health challenge that persists to impact health systems, economies, and societies across the globe almost over a period 12 months. Consequently, oral health care services have transformed to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infection transmission by adherence to patient triaging, risk stratification and meticulous infection control. Stringently imposed country-wise locks down scenarios were common in the first wave of COVID-19 that lasted early part of this year. Early childhood dental caries (ECC) as the most common chronic childhood disease affect toddlers and young children often resulting emergency paediatric dental visits due to its late sequel such as pain, swelling and infection. Against this backdrop, this short report investigates provision of emergency oral health care for children pres.....

Cleft lip is one of the most commonly encountered craniofacial deformities. The comprehensive treatment of cleft lip and palate deformities requires thoughtful consideration of the anatomic complexities of the deformity and the delicate balance between intervention and growth. As evidenced by the multiple techniques that have been developed for its repair, a functionally and aesthetically pleasing result is challenging to attain. In this study, we describe a modification of the surgical technique for the repair of complete unilateral cleft lip and palate, through the design of flag-shaped flaps without removing any tissue, as a modification to the rotation and advancement flaps or Millard technique......

The successful management of patients with cleft lip and palate deformity requires a multidisciplinary approach. Historically, cleft lip and palate care starts with treatment modality of presurgical infant orthopaedics (PSIO). However, the necessity of presurgical orthopaedics in managing the resulting orofacial deformity is the discussion to ponder upon due to the variety of methodologies available and results produced by these devices. The objectives of this paper were to review the journey of PSIO appliances so far, basic principles of PSIO treatment, the various types of techniques and the protocol followed, and to critically appraise the advantages and disadvantages of these techniques. In conclusion, we believe that PSO treatment, with its objective to appr.....

Bottle tooth decay is a common problem in dental medicine. Studies point to the relationship between mother’s knowledge and motivation to maintain oral hygiene and child’s oral health. The reason behind it is that mothers are usually the ones spending most of the time with the child during first years of life. The purpose of this study is to examine the level of pregnant women’s knowledge of the importance of primary teeth, caries and its causes, best time to begin tooth brushing and best time for first dental visit. In infant oral health lectures within the pregnancy class, 49 pregnant women were examined. The average age was 31, most of them were educated and employed. Before and after the lecture pregnant women got the same questionnaire and the results of the second questionnaire provides information on the imp.....
