University of Hull, UK
Sonja A Boehmer-Christiansen’s emeritus status at Hull University, where she taught environmental management for about 10 years after doing energy-environment related research only at Sussex University. For almost 20 years she was editor of Energy and Environment, now she owned by SAGE but formerly Multi-Science. Her PhD from Sussex University on Marine Pollution Control (1981); experiences (as child and later British research fellow in ‘East Germany’), and her Australian experience may be of relevance. She possesses a British and Australian passport. Her late husband was a space physicist and she have two grown-up children in Britain, and now she was retired living in Hull. Her main interests remain international politics and how these impinge energy policy in general and particularly in Europe. She continue to follow the climate debate, having long ago adopted a ‘sceptical’ (not denier) position. Her main objective as a board member would be to encourage ‘grounded’ research into world policy-making and above all, implementation, as well as of course honest natural science.

iGrow Sustainable Industries, LLC, USA
Iuri Herzfeld has done PhD in Chemical Oceanography from University of Hawaii, USA. Now his working in iGrow Sustainable Industries, LLC., USA, and he have 18 years of experience in oceanography and Environmental science. His research philosophy is based on the premise that a true understanding of natural systems can only be gained through the combination of in-field spatiotemporal observations, controlled manipulative experiments, and modeling efforts. Because physical conditions at a given location can change quite rapidly, it is important that we gain a better understanding of the ecological and biogeochemical function of a system over time under their current physical context. However, studies focusing on coastal zone biogeochemical functions should not be limited to in-situ time series studies, but should be complemented by process-based studies that systematically attempt to tease out the factors responsible for the variability of processes in a decreasing fashion (i.e., studies should attempt to address phenomena of interest from larger to lower variability). Often, multiple factors are responsible for an observable environmental signal, and synergetic interactions complicate the analysis of data. At UT he wish to lead a dynamic research group that focuses on understanding the in-situ spatiotemporal variability of biogeochemical functions within the coastal zone at different spatial and temporal scales. He also have a research program that focuses on controlled experiments in both laboratory and field settings. Finally he likes to integrate observational data to physical biogeochemical models to understand impacts to our coastal ecosystems. Understanding the variability of processes controlling coastal ecosystem function helps predict their response to future anthropogenic impacts.
