He received his BE degree in agricultural engineering in 1986, and Doctor degree in agro-product processing engineering in 1991, respectively, from Zhejiang Agricultural University. He has been working in Zhejiang University since 1998 and has been a Professor at Zhejiang University since 1999. Ali Mohamed Elshafei is an Emeritus Professor of Microbial Chemistry, National Research Centre (NRC), Egypt (since June, 2008). He received a BA in Biochemistry and Chemistry (1970) with honors from Ain-Shams University (ASU) and a Masters (1976) and PhD (1982) degrees from ASU and Cairo Universities respectively.
