Abstract
In this mini-review the pathogenesis, pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and course of prolonged wound leakage after
total hip and knee arthroplasty are discussed. It appears there is a disconcerting lack of research and knowledge concerning this
topic. Wide variations in definition, classification, diagnosis and treatment hamper patient management, early mobilisation and
rehabilitation, as well as the function of the operated joint, severely.
