Gender diversity refers to the variety of gender identities, expressions and roles that exist beyond the traditional categories
of “masculine” and “feminine”. This includes people who identify as male, female, non-binary, transgender, intergender, and other.
Recognizing and respecting gender diversity is essential to encourage equality and non-discrimination. For this reason, the gender
perspective is promoted as a necessary tool in the execution of forensic search and identification processes. However, there is still
a long way to go to be able to consider that the forensic field has fully integrated into this approach. This reality invites us to reflect
on the mechanisms, tools, methodologies, and challenges that currently exist around gender diversity, the disappearance of people
and forensic identification.
