Abstract
HUW was designed in 1965, to provide interactive facilities for computer users at A.E.R.E. Harwell, England. The paper explains
the thinking behind the design decision underlying HUW, with their implications for users and for the performance of the system. It
reflects on the consequences of these decisions for users and the establishment. HUW was retired in 1982
